A few years ago this Bad Person went into the Munch Museum in Oslo and stole the two most famous paintings on display, The Scream, and The Madonna. The police managed to catch the robbers, but the paintings had been badly damaged.
The restoration of the paintings took almost a year, and this summer they were on display at the museum again.Getting in to the museum exhibit you had to pass high security, armed guards, and complicated electric doors that you had to do fancy things to with the entrance ticket stub. The permanent exhibit of painting is great, so well curated, it just hung so good.
The temporary exhibit was a long narrow room filled with a variety of graphic works of the Madonna,
exquisitely obsessive. On the other wall ran a long series of sketches for The Scream.
The masterpieces themselves were
obviously damaged. The third room of the Museum was dedicated to the work of the restorers,( there were so many), restoring the two pieces.Among other things you could watch a really long seeming video of closeups of someone picking at the weave of the canvas with tiny tiny instruments, but by then it was time to go and get another
icecream so I probably missed the best part of that.
